    Description

    DESCRIPTION:
I SELL ONLY WITHIN THE U.S.  NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING OFFERED.
I’m offering today a rare paper mache baby doll with muslin body and hand sculpted fingers.  Beautiful blue German open/close sleep eyes.  Has a few paint chips and rub marks due to age.  Adorable hand made dress with custom made pink booties.
I don't often run across these paper mache dolls, but when I do I'm always fascinated by the workmanship of many years gone by.
I will start at the top of the doll and work my way down so as not to omit anything in my description.  Starting at the top of her head, she has molded curly hair which has been painted a dark brown color.  There are some paint flecks and rub marks on the head, which is normal for a doll of this age.  I made a custom hair band for her to wear with her adorable hand made dress.  I took pale pink stretch hair band elastic and made a large bow to attach to the top of the band.  I took pale pink grosgrain ribbon which is decorated with precious little cupcakes and made a large bow.  I then hand sewed the bow to the top of the band which allows it to stand upright on the dolls head.  It goes so well with her pink dress.   As you go down to her face, she has single brown line for eyebrows.  She has beautiful blue German glass eyes which open/and close freely.  She has her original brown eyelashes which appear to be all there.   Her eyes open and close freely and have such a precious look to them.
She has a dainty little nose with open nostrils for realism which flows down to her lips.  Her lips are painted bright red color which look oh so sweet on her.  Her cheeks have wonderful coloring to blend well with her beautiful bright blue eyes.
Her head appears to be paper mache with the rest of her body being muslin.  Her body is original to the doll which does show darkness from the years of being displayed or stored.  It has turned dark over the years, but that is normal for a doll with this much age to her.  The body is either stuffed with sawdust or hay because it is firmly in place.  She has meticulously hand sculpted fingers which are attached to the arms.
The back of her neck is hallmarked with a simple "R".  I'm not sure who she was made by, but she displays so nicely.
Now to her adorable custom made dress.  She is wearing a pink cotton dress with delicate pink flowers covering the entire surface of the fabric.  The collar is peter pan in style which is trimmed with white eyelet ruffles.  Her sleeves are cinderella style which too are trimmed with white eyelet trim.  The dress is pink cotton which is trimmed with white eyelet trim.  Over the front of the bodice of the dress, she is wearing a matching pink with floral apron which goes around the back and ties with a large bow.  There are buttons on the back of the dress which keep it securely on the doll.  Under her dress, she is wearing matching pantaloons with the same delicate white eyelet trim.  I had these custom made pink booties made for her to wear and they look so sweet with this dress.
All my dolls are truly loved and cared for as though they were my children.  Their clothes are either original to the doll, made by me, I've tried finding doll clothing from the same era as the doll or find clothing which match the personality of the doll.  We do not smoke and I try very hard to keep a tidy clean home free of dust and odor.  My dolls are clean and most of the time look as though they did when they were sold new.   Depending on how old they are, I do try to be honest in detailing if some of the dolls have bruises, missing toes or fingers or other issues, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth having; for each one is like children.....they are all beautiful in their mothers eyes.  If I've missed something it would never be intentional.
    SIZE:
This antique paper mache doll is approximately 14" tall.
    CONDITION:
I personally feel she is in good condition because I don't find anything significantly wrong with her.  She has a few rub spots and paint flaking on her head.  There are a few small areas on her face, but nothing that deters from the dolls face.  Her dress is custom made and has been laundered prior to dressing her.  It is free of odors and has been ironed by me and looks so sweet on her.  Her pink booties were custom made for her to wear, so they are new.   It's difficult to find a doll like this one.  They don't come up too often, so hope someone out there will want to bring her home to them.  P
